she’s green – paper thin
Minneapolis five-piece she’s green — Zofia Smith (vocals), Liam Armstrong (guitar), Raines Lucas (guitar), Teddy Nordvold (guitar), and Kevin Seeback (drums) — have announced their third EP, Swallowtail, due July 10 via Photo Finish Records. “paper thin” is the lead single, arriving alongside an official video. The EP was recorded, produced, and mixed by Sonny DiPerri, and follows last year’s Chrysalis, which was produced in part with Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr and signed the band to Photo Finish.
Shoegaze’s grammar is all over “paper thin” — reverb-soaked guitars that blur at the edges, a rhythm section that holds things together without pushing forward too hard. The song is about lust being mistaken for love in a relationship that’s already ended — Smith describes it as exploring “the power of lust in a dying relationship: how it can be confused for love when in reality, the relationship has already faded”. The lyric “holding onto something gone” lands accordingly.
What catches my ear is the pacing, it refuses to resolve, just keeps circling the same emotional moment, which is exactly right for the subject. Everything feels like it’s on the verge of falling apart without ever quite doing so. That fragility is the point.
